BlogHer Voices of the Year

I have been toying with the idea of submitting a piece for BlogHer Voices of the Year for the last two months. Voices of the Year is something quite amazing that I would love to be a part of.

Each year at BlogHer, bloggers are honored for their writing. Some even get to get up on stage in front of a packed crowd and read their chosen post to everyone in attendance.

BlogHer honors up to 120 as a Voice of the Year, with one submission from each of the 6 categories qualifying as the “People’s Choice” honoree (getting the posts "liked"). From that group, 15 fresh, new voices will be chosen by the judging committee to present their submission live on stage at the Voices of the Year Community Keynote in New York, on Friday, August 3rd.

That's the part that would mean so much to me.  It's not about getting the likes (though it would be cool)... I think it's more about a committee saying wow yes this... and choosing something I wrote.  My post was submitted under the Heart category and this will be my last shameless plug about it.

A few days ago I finally took the plunge.  I submitted Fighting the Current.

My BlogHer roomie Jen's is also up.  She submitted under the Humor category.  10 Things That Make Me Cry (Disclaimer: It Doesn't Take Much.)

I would love it if this August, we both got to stand up there and read from that stage.  Submissions end tomorrow so we got ours in just under the wire.  Cross your fingers for us and I'll keep you posted if I hear anything.
