Festival Fete in Garden City

Looking for something fun and local to do this weekend?

We sure were after all the monsoon rain the last two days. The boys were so excited to see the weather clear this morning. We headed right over to Festival Fete in Garden City before lunch.

What is Festival Fete? From the website:

Festival Fete creates a one-of-a-kind community art festival featuring 100+ contemporary American craft artisan, local "festive food", strolling entertainment, live music, free children's crafts, and a specially-designed community art project. Our mission is to offer a platform for local artists -- of various mediums and levels -- to show their work. In collaboration with community talent, volunteers and sponsors, we create profitable platforms that celebrate locally grown art, food and merriment.

Sound interesting yet? It totally was! Check out just some of the photos from the afternoon.

The best magician we have ever seen. Ever. Regretting not asking him for a card so we can track him down again. He had the boys - as well as Al and I - in absolute stitches with his humor. The Doodle Bop laughed so hard he nearly cried.

Below is some of the local art for sale. Beautiful isn't it?

Creative shops like this one drew me in. How funny is that!

The boys had to stop and see Amy the Silent Mime.

Fabulous balloon swords (for just a dollar donation each) to spear Daddy with!

I tried to get one of the boys to try this awesome rock wall, but they were not having it with the height. Maybe next year.

Free pennant and hat making stations for the kids. The we stopped and got yet another ring with bling from my friend Dara at her booth Harliquinn Designs. I am a little obsessed with her hand made jewelry ... and I think you will be too if you check out her booth. A compact is next on my list!

We even ran into my grandmother! And I was so excited to see her I forgot to take out my camera and get a photo of all of us. This is the boys with all of their loot before we left. Minus the pictures from the photo booth. That's right, I said photo booth! Someone has them and I will find out who! Hilarious. Fake mustaches, giant glasses ... the boys were in their glory posing for photos.

It was such a fun afternoon! Some money is even donated to the RI Public Schools for the Art Teachers. I kind of love that! The school my boys attend actually got a drying rack donated to them from Art Is Smart this school year. How amazing is that! The local high school got mural supplies.

I am 100% for events that also give back to the kids and the community.

And tomorrow they do it all again from 10am to 5pm. If you missed it today, I am telling you, make the stop in Garden City. Amazing - affordable - family event.

***Disclosure: I was provided with a $20 gift certificate to visit the festival, tweet and blog about it. Opinions are all my own. We went last year as a family and looked forward to coming this year as well!***
