Housekeeping and The Mommy Gamer

I have struggled with this decision for months now...and as you can see I have gone back and forth on it.

I think that I have to close down my other blog, The Mommy Gamer.

And it kills me to say that.

When I tell you there is so much I have wanted to do with that little blog over there, you have no idea.  But trying to keep that one up separately, along with taking care of the boys, this blog... and everywhere else I write... well something has to give.  And it hurts to say I think it has to be The Mommy Gamer.

I still have some pending reviews that need to get finished up.  But I feel like I am not ready to completely say goodbye... because even though I barely spend time there it's still another part of me.  So here is what I am thinking.  I might end up redesigning Cira's Lyrics a bit.  It will still be all about the boys, me, chaos... the day to day like it is now.  Only I'd also like to have a smaller gaming/entertainment spot.  And maybe a few other spots as well.

For the longest time I felt like I had to keep everything separate.  This was the boys and the family... The Mommy Gamer is the gaming/entertainment... Buy-Her is fashion and products and shopping... 5 Minutes for Mom is the giveaways... Multiplicity is twin stuff.  But in reality its still all ME.  I will still keep writing everywhere else (Mommy Gamer aside) but I hope that adding some more to Cira's Lyrics will make it easier to keep up with the flow of content since I'll have more in one space, as well as help this site grow.

Next on tap?  Finding someone who can redesign my page the way I want and help me move over the articles from the Mommy Gamer (without it costing an arm and a leg).  Any ideas on how to tackle that will be greatly appreciated.

LA wrap up (for lack of a better title)

Is it weird if I call going to LA representing 5 Minutes for Mom a life changing experience?  Because I keep thinking how can you really change your life in a little over 48 hours... but I feel like I did.  Or started to rather.

As much as I wanted this trip I was also terrified.  All I did was pack some things in a bag, get on a plane, navigate an airport, get on Another plane and land.  But I did it.  And believe me when I say that two years ago... hell ONE year ago... I would not have been able to do this.  Not because I couldn't have gotten away.  But because then?  I did not have it in me.  The push, the drive... the confidence in myself.

Whether I could see it or not, I lost my sense of who I was a very long time ago.  At some point you fall into being a wife, a mother...and while it happened ever so slowly, I didn't know who I was anymore.  Not until I really started to go public with my blogging and put it all out there.  And try like hell to not only write for MYSELF (which is where it started) but to start to get hired to write elsewhere as well.

I can not believe how far I have come... from my first day trips to NYC for blogging to actually working with Conde Nast on Santa's Hideout.  Being in LA to attend the fitness blogger pop up event with Jamba Juice was huge for me.  I know I need to lose weight, I have struggled with it for the last few years.  Coming into the event I was shocked to find that I was basically the second biggest girl there.  In a room full of fitness bloggers what did I expect.  Standing there in front of all those mirrors though was yet another wake up.

I am changing who I am.  I want to be healthier.  Skinny again.  I want more energy.  I tried my hardest to keep up with all the other girls and for the most part I did a pretty good job.  But a few years ago I would have been standing in the front kicking ass and taking names... not trying to blend into the back.  And you know, I now have photos that look like this.

Where else can you get better motivation to lose weight than that, right?

Because oh.my.gah.

The other incredible part of the trip were the girls that I met.  So supportive, so encouraging.  Bloggers are really a close knit group I think.  You go in knowing no one and leave feeling like you have made some friends.

And I am so proud to be a part of that.  Buying my tickets for BlogHer this summer tonight and I am going to keep on going with this travel thing as far as it takes me.

This trip has inspired me to want to do more, travel more, be more...try to get a morning mile started at the boys school.  Which I think I will also volunteer to run.  And I have some ideas I want to run by the YMCA too.

I'm hitting the ground and I'm running.  Changes are coming this time.  And I'm serious when I say that Jamba Juice is a big part of why I am about to make the changes.

Excuses excuses (and more gonads and strife)

Wow so I haven't updated since Sunday... that shouldn't happen.

You know what I always end up realizing.  When I have the most to say, the most going on... that's when I tend to skip a few days.  Sunday after I posted, I ended up at the treatment center because something felt seriously wrong with my arm.  It had been tingly from my shoulder through my fingertips since I woke up that morning (for no reason at all).  Several x-rays later, hello pinched nerve.

Because of course.  Hello klutzy me.  Only this time was more awesome because I didn't even do anything!

My arm was in a sling and I was given pain relievers and a muscle relaxer... I was to wear the sling whenever I was not driving and take the muscle relaxer only at night (since I spend half the day in and out of the truck).  Yeah so that sling didn't make it 24 hours on me.  I was in and out of the truck so much Monday morning I gave up halfway through the day.

So let me set the scene.  In addition to the pinched nerve, Al and I also discovered a mouse... in the house.  That only came out at night.  Which lead us to finding a hole in the tile under a kitchen cabinet.  And yet no broken tile pieces on the floor.

Add that to memories of gonads and strife

Cue Al and I not sleeping.

Combine that with scrambling to pack and finalize my arrangements for the trip... and yeah.  Time flew by.  I sat down a few times to blog things out in California but each time I did something would come up to sidetrack me.  So here we go.  I'll put it into a few shorter posts here instead of one epic one.  And I'll also let you all know when you can read more at 5 Minutes for Mom.

Leaving on a jet plane

What does Los Angeles, Jamba Juice and Parkour have in common?

I know.  Too obvious... right?

ME!

In case you missed my Facebook freak out Friday afternoon, I will fill you in.  I am going to LA on Wednesday and Thursday with 5 Minutes for Mom.  Jamba Juice is having a fitness blogger event and is sending a writer from 5 Minutes for Mom out to cover the event.

And I got the spot!

I can't remember the last time I have been so excited - and so scared at the same time.  I have never been out to the west coast and I don't particularly love flying... but I am doing it.  In 48 hours round trip no less.  With Jamba!  They had me at Jamba without any other details.  I developed an addiction on my first blogging trip in NYC last year (they don't have the stores in RI unfortunately) and ever since, no trip to NYC is complete without stopping for a smoothie.

Friday night I got to learn some of the details of my trip, though I don't know much yet.  They are flying me out Wednesday for Thursday's event which includes tasting a new line of products from their Live Fruitfully campaign and an introduction of 10 new fitness trends.

Which new trends?  JAM (Juicy Athletic Moves) by celeb choreographer Neda Soderqvist, weighted hoola hoop class (my grama was on that years ago!), parkour and more.

Oh yeah, I said parkour.

I had no idea I would be doing anything other than attending the event and writing about it... but I have this feeling participation will be required.  And all I can think of is this.

Wish me luck y'all.
