LA baby

So my babies turned 7. It actually happened. I wished for a way to keep them 6, but time moves on anyway.

We celebrated with dinner that night at Chelo's Waterfront (as has been tradition) and then headed out to Hope to see the fireworks. The boys could not stop talking about how it felt like the fireworks were just for their birthday. I could not get enough of the smiles on all of their faces.

I make it to my summer office (also known as the beach) about 3 days a week and the weather has been amazing - up until today. Looking at 3 days straight of forecasted thunderstorms has me disappointed. The beach is calling me. I did need to slow down a bit and catch up on so many other things though, so maybe it is what I needed after all.

Last week I started helping Calm-A-Mama with their social media. Calm-A-Mama is homeopathic healing for anxiety, insomnia and more. Flower remedies for moms, dads, kids, and even pets. I am really excited about this company!

I also made a last minute trip out to LA last week for the Sex Tape movie press junket with Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel. Amazing time. I feel like a piece of me belongs in LA and I can't wait to share the trip with you. I was able to go on my friend and blogger (at The-Mommyhood-Chronicles) Melissa Pezza's behalf as she welcomed her baby girl into the world. I am currently working on a post to be featured on her blog for tomorrow about the trip. I will follow up here with another post about LA on Wednesday.

I can't believe how much I needed to just go away and I am so grateful to have had the opportunity. When I stopped writing and traveling for 5 Minutes for Mom, I started working on social media for local businesses as the next transition for me. My current clients include Envious Swimming, Dream Big Gymnastics, Calm-A-Mama ... and I also write the weekly blog for Launch Trampoline Park.

With the boys trying to pursue an acting career - and still making sure they take time to just be kids along the way - I felt like my own blog here was at a crossroads. What to post, if I should give it up after all these years ... writing is a part of me but I was definitely feeling stuck. Being in LA, even though it was just for two days, made me realize how much I did love to travel and write. I feel like it was something I had started to forget. How many people can say they drove race cars on a professional track in New Orleans, drove a Mercedes around New Mexico, got to go on a Disney trip, got to interview Cameron Diaz and Jason Segal ... and so much more. Writing has taken me amazing places, and with the support of my husband and kids I have truly been blessed.

LA gave me time to do a little soul searching. This is still what I want to do. And I made some amazing new friends as well.

Stick with me as I get back to a regular posting schedule here.

Getting back on track

I know I have been kind of quiet lately.

That will be changing.

Four straight weeks of being sick might just be a new record for me and I have been totally wiped out. This entire time I have been trying to get extra rest where I can, while still running around everywhere with the boys. Which I'm sure brings me right back to why I've been sick for a month now. And in the middle of all that, a friend's small daughter was diagnosed with Cancer while another friend unexpectedly lost her dad.

Roller coaster of emotions lately. Part of me would like to blurt my every thought out here, but its one of those things I need to keep in. (As I silently curse no longer having that anonymous blog.)

I may not have started off the New Year with the bang I was looking for health wise or career wise... but I'm getting there. Finalizing some things first. Then watch out for me!

Over the weekend I had my first hockey mom fail. The morning we were supposed to get the boys all signed up, we overslept. Well, we did manage to get up before the rink time but it was so late we couldn't get the boys moving fast enough. And then I went back to bed to again try sleeping off this cold. Here's to tomorrow night for starting over again!

Tomorrow morning the Big Guy also has his Occupational Therapy evaluation. It feels like it has taken so long to get the ball rolling through all the red tape. I am excited to hear what they say for his sake. I am also beyond thrilled with how supportive his teacher is as the smaller things are becoming the tougher things for him. It used to be the other way around.

I hope to be back blogging again tomorrow, but it will be a busy day. Two hours with the boys for the Big Guy's PT and OT eval in the morning, school, hockey (hopefully) and attending the wake for my dear friend's dad. One thing I can be sure of... I won't be skipping this week's Thankful Thursday. Getting myself back on track.

BlogHer12 NYC recap

BlogHer12.  New York City.

...where do I even start.

Here's how it ended.  With a photo of swag and luggage for three girls.

That is an entire luggage cart that the bell hop not only filled up but hung things off of, and it still didn't all fit - after just 3 days in the city.  Another photo that doesn't really do it justice I suppose.

But I guess I should start at the beginning.  The boys dropped me off in Charlestown to meet Jen and as one of my guys was fighting to keep it together, one of her girls was completely falling apart.  Which made it so hard on the heart to leave.  Once we were in the car and on the road though?  Time flew right by.  Jen and I talked the entire way and we actually made it to NYC in under 3 hours - with a minor detour no less.  The Hilton held our bags and told us they would text us when our room was available (totally awesome service by the way) and we were off to explore Times Square and get souvenir t's for our kids before things got too busy.  We had just finished shopping when we got the text that our room was ready - early - so we headed back.

Next up was Drybar with the girls.  So fun!  They hand you champagne and you get your hair styled.  Um, I want to open one of these HERE!

Truth be told, I couldn't even tell you what we did when for the most part after that.  Its all part of a really fun, totally exhausting blur - with highs and lows and highs again.  We hit some really fun parties (SweetSuite by the Big Toy book was so cool!  I'm even able to put away some toys for the boys for Christmas and stocking stuffers on that swag alone.) ... I got to visit hotel security with Sarah and Avery for a good hour one night, saw President Obama address us live, sort of met Martha Stewart - a blog post to come I promise - met Kate Gosselin - met Ree Drummond... just 3 days of total awesomeness.

My only complaints?  5,000 people is just too large for the Hilton and it was too hard to get into the sessions I wanted to.  The ones I will now be watching online, since they had to turn people away.  I did meet some really nice PR people and I feel like I made some great connections.  Food though?  It's bad when you eat less in 3 days than you usually do in 1 at home.  Food and water was scarce... but the alcohol was free flowing.

Absolute favorite part?  Leaving Sparklecorn early (not exactly our scene) only to head over to a Hookah bar we had been by earlier and doing it up with Jen and Joanna.  Meeting the doorman who loved 'Chicken Wrights!' in Rhode Island (known as Wrights Chicken Farm to the rest of us).  Then closing down the corner supermarket at 5 minutes to 1 (AM) so we could get corn nuts, kale chips, almonds, guacamole and bagel chips.  Lets just say that next morning was rough. We didn't let it stop us from hitting Getting Gorgeous though!

I still loved just about every minute.  Being in Chicago, I don't know that I will go next year... but BlogHer will still be on my to do list again.  Loved hanging with all my Rhody Blogger girls!!! It was awesome to share this with all of you!

Windows Style Makeover

BlogHer'12 is just one week away!

Next Thursday morning Jen and I will be driving to NYC for our very first blogging conference.  Excited doesn't even begin to express how I feel about it.

Microsoft Windows is having a sweepstakes where 5 BlogHer attendees will be chosen to win a $1,500 style makeover by a celebrity stylist, receive a new PC and more.  Al sent me the link to the contest weeks ago and urged me to enter.  True to form, I left it to the last minute obsessing over just what to say and how to enter... pinterest board, vlog...blog post...

Well here I am, nominating myself and going with the blog post.  I would love to be one of the 5 attendees chosen.  Finally getting to go to BlogHer is amazing to me, part of a small dream come true.  Six years ago I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life.  I was a wife, a new mom... all things I wanted... but I felt like I did not have a direction career wise.  In fact I felt like I didn't know who I was.  Eighteen months after bring home our first son, we were again bringing home two more.  Identical twins.  I had three babies under the age of 2.

And while I loved being a mom I can't gloss over it and say it was easy.  It was rough... and it took me a long time to find myself again.

Blogging helped me do that.  It gave me a direction.  It started three years ago on an anonymous blog.  One of the twins was facing a possible major medical condition and I didn't know what else to do.  I wrote for myself.  It was my outlet.  No one read it and no one knew I was writing it...but there I was day after day.  When we got the great news that my son was in fact OK, I realized how much blogging had helped me.  I wiped the entire blog clean and started over... as me.  And I have spent the last 2 and a half years writing my butt off everywhere I can.

From my own small blog about my family, branching out making trips from RI to NYC for the day on writing assignments... making friends and connections along the way... to traveling across the country for work.  Blogging has changed me - for the good - in ways that I can not begin to express.  It helped me to find myself again.  I now not only run two blogs, but am also starting my own social media company Corbo Media.

I am online so much that I tend to destroy laptops every 2 years...which is about how long I have had the current one.  It would be amazing to get a new PC as well as a style makeover!  I am still trying hard not to be Sweatpants Mommy of 3 and being obsessed with all things celebrity to begin with, I would love a makeover by a celebrity stylist!  And if I do, I will blog/vlog it All!

Did you hear that?  They are yelling 'Pick our Mommy!'

In writing this post, I’m entering the Microsoft Windows Style Makeover Sweepstakes for a chance to win a head to toe makeover!

Craptastic days that end with rainbows

Stressed. Behind on every single thing I could possibly be behind on... and maybe then some. I have half finished posts and articles everywhere and my desk is a mess. My brain is fried. I started this day with the feeling that this is the day I would get caught up - and then some.

Yeah.

Not so much.

Instead I spent half the day getting the boys costumes ready for school tomorrow. They will each dress up as a character from a book they like. While I spent part of the week stressing over what the boys wanted and I could not make, I took the advice of Cissa and gave them choices of what I could make.

It took me an hour and a half to pick up the craft supplies but I came in under $16 so that was pretty awesome. I did however have to break my ban on Jo-Ann...but it was for a good cause because I love my kids (even though walking through those doors after all this time made me die a little inside).  The things we do for our kids, right?

The costumes came out really cool and the boys are excited to wear them tomorrow.  It did however eat a giant portion of my day, so nothing got written or posted anywhere.

Straight from dinner we hit up Reading Night at school and all I could think about when we pulled up is the work I should have been home doing instead.  The boys were yelling with glee over this rainbow so I stopped and snapped a photo for them.  Here it is.
At the time all I could think about what my craptastic day.  But in the end, I enjoyed the time with the boys at school.  Tomorrow is another day right?  Which I will kick off by dressing the boys as a hedgehog from Apple Trouble, the tree (yes I said the tree) from Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and the man in the yellow hat from a Curious George Christmas book we have.  And after I take the twins to their class, I will go into the Big Guy's class with him.  I am telling the class tomorrow about what its like to be a Blogger.

Wish me luck.  (Maybe after that I'll actually get home and you know, get caught up on blogging or something.)

LA wrap up (for lack of a better title)

Is it weird if I call going to LA representing 5 Minutes for Mom a life changing experience?  Because I keep thinking how can you really change your life in a little over 48 hours... but I feel like I did.  Or started to rather.

As much as I wanted this trip I was also terrified.  All I did was pack some things in a bag, get on a plane, navigate an airport, get on Another plane and land.  But I did it.  And believe me when I say that two years ago... hell ONE year ago... I would not have been able to do this.  Not because I couldn't have gotten away.  But because then?  I did not have it in me.  The push, the drive... the confidence in myself.

Whether I could see it or not, I lost my sense of who I was a very long time ago.  At some point you fall into being a wife, a mother...and while it happened ever so slowly, I didn't know who I was anymore.  Not until I really started to go public with my blogging and put it all out there.  And try like hell to not only write for MYSELF (which is where it started) but to start to get hired to write elsewhere as well.

I can not believe how far I have come... from my first day trips to NYC for blogging to actually working with Conde Nast on Santa's Hideout.  Being in LA to attend the fitness blogger pop up event with Jamba Juice was huge for me.  I know I need to lose weight, I have struggled with it for the last few years.  Coming into the event I was shocked to find that I was basically the second biggest girl there.  In a room full of fitness bloggers what did I expect.  Standing there in front of all those mirrors though was yet another wake up.

I am changing who I am.  I want to be healthier.  Skinny again.  I want more energy.  I tried my hardest to keep up with all the other girls and for the most part I did a pretty good job.  But a few years ago I would have been standing in the front kicking ass and taking names... not trying to blend into the back.  And you know, I now have photos that look like this.

Where else can you get better motivation to lose weight than that, right?

Because oh.my.gah.

The other incredible part of the trip were the girls that I met.  So supportive, so encouraging.  Bloggers are really a close knit group I think.  You go in knowing no one and leave feeling like you have made some friends.

And I am so proud to be a part of that.  Buying my tickets for BlogHer this summer tonight and I am going to keep on going with this travel thing as far as it takes me.

This trip has inspired me to want to do more, travel more, be more...try to get a morning mile started at the boys school.  Which I think I will also volunteer to run.  And I have some ideas I want to run by the YMCA too.

I'm hitting the ground and I'm running.  Changes are coming this time.  And I'm serious when I say that Jamba Juice is a big part of why I am about to make the changes.

Help needed

OK y'all I could use a little help.

As a blogger I can sometimes be addicted to checking my stats.  My traffic is constantly increasing, yet I don't seem to hear much about it ON the blog.  While I do hear people comment on blogs less these days, I have noticed that I get way more comments through Facebook, Twitter and in person.... which has left me wondering if maybe it's not so easy for people to comment on my actual blog.

Last night one of my friends let me know she has made several comments to my blog which never seem to appear.  Al and I checked it over and all I found was 2 comments from Jo-Ann Fabrics that landed in my spam comment folder (that I didn't even know existed).  And all this time I've banned Jo-Ann... hmm.

Long story short I'm in need of some responses - on the blog, facebook or twitter - doesn't matter where.  Please let me know if you have had a problem commenting on the blog in any way.  If it's too hard I want to know that too.  I am looking to change over from Blogger to something else soon that might make things easier.  Any input you have would be helpful!

Thanks loves!

Not only a mom

Feeling beyond frustrated this week.

Last night I took the boys to the rally at Cranston East to support the Cranston Public Schools.  It was hard for them to last the whole hour but I felt good being there, like it was where I had to be with them - whether we stay in Cranston or not, this is where I grew up.  I came home prepared to blog all about the rally.

Something happened that took me right out of the blogging mood shortly after I walked in the door.  I checked my cell and realized I had gotten a DM from another blogger that I had been cut from the Triberr tribe I had been on for the last week or so because they were cutting back on the mom stuff.  I was so mad it actually surprised me.  I had not sought out this tribe, it was a blogger I sometimes chatted online with who told me about it and invited me to join.

I did have some reservations about all the auto tweets going out from my account.  I worried a little I would lose some followers...which I believe I did.  But my blog views?  Soared through the roof.  Higher than I thought possible in such a short period of time.  And some of the other bloggers in the tribe were really nice and supportive on Twitter.  While I wasn't tweeting out the same kind of things I was writing I still thought it was kind of cool we all seemed to be writing about different things.

No one likes to be rejected, I get it.  If you ask Al he will tell you it's one of the things I hate most (and while I don't usually admit it he's probably right).  What upset me most is that I was cut from what I was invited to join... and so soon...for writing 'mom stuff'.  It's not like they didn't know what I blogged about in the first place.

Now I seriously mean it when I say I am not trying to start Internet drama... because I'm really not.  This is just me venting it out... in word vomit.  Which is what I seem to do a lot of lately.  I check Facebook and see the person who cut me from Triberr posted to someone to join a group being created called:

"Not another mommy blogger." It involves Twitter and sharing great tweets. It's a group for women who are cool enough to think beyond the diaper.

I can not even help it, it kind of cut me to the core.  While not directed at me I still take it personal.  I AM a mom.  A mom who has spent the last 3 days chasing after 2 four year olds and 1 five year old who have:

dumped out the shampoo bottle in the sink just to fill the bathroom with suds

dropped a tube of Desitin in the toilet and took turns peeing on it to see what would happen

turned the outside hose on the house and open windows and tried to claim the water was not on

used my eyeshadow and mascara to 'decorate' a sink

managed to destroy a playroom, basement and 2 bedrooms during a playdate

AND MORE!  In just 3 days.  But I'm going to stop here for now.

The point is yeah, I write about what happens to me every day... which involves me being a mom and the things my kids do.  But if you keep reading it's not ALL I write about.  And it's not the only place that I write either.  Buy-Her is an online shopping blog...which you know, isn't about things we buy for our kids, but the things we buy for ourselves.  I'm about to cover Providence Style Week.  I could go on.  But I also know it doesn't matter.  Wasn't the right fit and I'll find where I belong I guess.

I just don't like feeling judged on one aspect of my life.

Style school and NYC with the Big Guy

Me again.

Still haven't found time to blog about our New Hampshire vacation two weeks ago, or at Canobie Lake this past Friday with Inquest ... hoping to get back on track with everything this week.  Before the boys all end up back in school next week that is.

It was quite the weekend.  New Hampshire Friday, NYC Saturday.  My sister and brother in law were awesome enough to watch the twins while Al worked Saturday so I could take the Big Guy with me to NYC for a blogger event with American Eagle's 77 Kids Style School.

I worried about how the Big Guy would do coming off of such a long day at Canobie Lake the day before.  The walking, the bus ride... a late night meal and everyone in bed around 10pm.  I packed everything before I went to bed and set the alarm for 5am so I could take care of anything extra.  The Big Guy?  I wasn't going to wake till the last moment.  That child was up 10 minutes after me with bloodshot eyes claiming he was ready to go.  I tried to get him to go back to sleep for an hour but had no luck.  Dressed in moments, he sat on the couch with his things and ate a frozen yogurt pop.

To avoid a really long post I'm going to turn this into a photo essay.  I will tell you we had an awesome time and I was so grateful I was able to take him with me.  While he's still a little young to understand we got to do this because Mommy writes, I do hope its something he realizes in the future when he's frustrated I'm 'on the computer again'.  I?  Realized just how funny my child is.  Hysterical in fact when removed from his brothers and exploring somewhere new.

We met so many really nice bloggers this time around and not only did the Big Guy get his hair styled, he even volunteered to sit at the Play-Doh table and play while I spoke with some company representatives.  Also?  Awesome swag from Lands End, Goody, Motts (I wanna be a Mott's Mom!!!), MomAgenda and more.  And?  You just might see something new come out from MomAgenda in the future.  I will point you back to this very post and say MY IDEA!  You're welcome!  (How cool is that!)
